Finally! iPhone 3G for Singapore! I got myself a 8GB and my friend got the 16GB
The launch was at SingTel ComCenter 12 midnight. Initially I thought it was some joke for the launch to be at 12 midnight. Damn it was for real.
I got home at 2.30am. *Shrug* Why the hell did I go for the launch? There are options to buy at other ‘when the sun is shining’ time. Guess I’m just curious on what’s up SingTel’s sleeve.
Its 4am now as I’m typing this and downloading the software update. I’m still pretty awake, must be the free coffee and Redbull they were giving out just now.
Noisy little girl and my friend accompanied me, we reached 2 hours earlier. There was so much media people around, I believe our local newspapers, online articles, TV will be splashed with the launch later on.
I’m pretty impressed on how this launch event is organized. There’s a local live band, refreshments, tidbits, staff who actually walk around to talk to us, little fireworks above the glass ‘building’ they built to look like the Apple’s Fifth Avenue store just for this event I believe. *Thumbs up* SingTel! That’s something good isn’t it? Well, lets not talk about the price plans and handset pricing shall we? LOL!

I got myself SwitchEasy Colors. I found it very hard to make the decision as there were so MANY other cases. I decided on this, for the price and funky color. I’m tempted to maybe get another color. It doesn’t feel like those poor sticky silicon cases. I’ll update this post again maybe after a week or so to see if its still good. *UPDATE* - HERE
I also got the screen protector which is anti glare. It really is good. The sensitivity is not affected at all and I really do get the anti glare. There’s a little card to help you push evenly. A sticky to ’suck’ out all the dust before application.
Application is almost idiot proof. You won’t be messing with bubbles stuck. First attempt and I got it straight on. Maybe I’m lucky. I GOT TEH MAD SKILLZ. The decision for choosing this particular brand over others. It has the “Made In Japan” printed. LOL! It has 2 pieces. So share it with your friend to cut cost. The website printed on the packaging leads here.
Front part of it. Clean design. No funny logos.
Back part of it. Clean as well, no weird logos. You might want to give a miss on the brand Ma***Sphe* as it has a logo imprinted on the back. You will not noticed unless you take it out of the packaging. My friend was pretty pissed.
Bottom part, a little silicon to cover as well. It fits well, doesn’t give me a feeling that it’ll drop easily.
Top part, another little piece of silicon to cover. Fits well too.
I’m happy! Hopefully this can help you pimp your iPhone 3G in a cheaper way. For those who really want to look different and got the cash. Check out Vaja Cases.

hey, by the way, can purchase the premium package and then terminate it for $800 also?
from what i remember, early downgrade of plans before the contract is up is $800 payable. Think perhaps same goes for termination as well? Not too sure tho.

kew, yup you can, just pay the price but why would you want to do that? a lot of mobile shops are selling without plans.
lyn, luckily you didn’t buy from comcentre, the prices are higher compared to shops. I got mine from Apple @ Funan, level 5.
What’s included in the monthly plan ? I want to compare to what we have here in canada.
Btw, try the wordpress application which can be downloaded from itunes. I heard it’s really nice.

Pretty nice plan for iFlexi Value because The plans we have from Rogers sux (http://www.rogers.com/web/content/wireless-products/iphone_voice_data_packages) especially the data part.
Saku: pretty nice compared over to your side, whoa the monthly charges are quite high there!!
SMS is quite common here, that’s why our local are not very happy with such packages offered, of course along with other rants.
we sort of feel quite cheated, we have 3 telcos over here, only SingTel is exclusive to iPhone 3G. so… I believe we’re paying premium for now.

Yep, monthly charge makes me hesitant to get it although Canada is 1 generation behind asia-pacific countries in term of cellphone technologies so I can’t really complain.
Same here. Rogers and Fido are the only exclusive retailer iPhone 3G but Rogers owns Fido so technically, Rogers is the sole iPhone retailer here. Well.. it’s not like we have a lot telcos ^^;;. The other 2 telcos are CDMA so slim chance that they will carry iPhone unless Apple produces CDMA version.

If not check out the stores? Lots of stores selling without contract. Our local forums hardwarezone market place have alot of sets going for sale, also without contract.

laiyin: a VERY rough gauge at the current market at this point of typing is $1100 + - for 8GB
and add $100-$200 more for 16GB.
